About
Migraine is a painful and debilitating disease characterized by episodic attacks of piercing headache and nausea that last for up to three days, which afflicts 35 million Americans. During attacks, migraine patients are often forced to retreat to a quiet, dark room, which has a devastating impact on their lives, careers and families. Migraine patients are therefore highly motivated to find relief. However, the existing treatments are not satisfactory, and the best therapy for a given patient is currently found by a slow and expensive process of trial and error. As a consequence, migraine results in tens of billions of dollars in annual medical costs for health plans and lost productivity for employers, as well as significant out-of-pocket expense for migraine patients.
